How can study of social sciences and humanities help overcome global crises such as Covid-19 pandemic?

In an episode of South China Morning Post’s EdTalk interview, Professor Richard M Walker, Dean of CityU's College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, expresses that apart from medical experts and scientists, individuals from social sciences and humanities also play a key role in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. He says the two fields enable us to understand the world, its people, all institutions, such as governments and NGOs, and how processes and mechanisms operate. This understanding is crucial as it helps us make better decisions in solving problems in current and future situations.
